Starke Co., Indiana
MEETINGS & NEWS:
As of February 18, 2025, the Starke County Plan Commission has held public hearings regarding a proposed 12-month moratorium on new solar energy systems and battery energy storage projects. This moratorium aims to provide county officials with additional time to review and potentially amend existing ordinances related to these developments. Notably, projects from companies like NextEra, Hoosier Solar, and Mammoth Solar, which are already in various stages of the permitting process, would be exempt from this moratorium. The Starke County Commissioners initially voted in favor of this 12-month moratorium in December 2024, with the matter subsequently referred to the Plan Commission for further consideration. The primary objective is to allow time for a comprehensive review and possible amendments to the county's ordinances, particularly concerning battery energy storage systems. At this stage, the moratorium has been recommended but not yet officially enacted. The final decision will be made following further deliberations by county officials. YouTube Video Link
Commissioners meet on the first Monday of each month at 5:00pm (CST) and the third Monday of each month at 9:30am (CST).
